SERIOUS ROBOTS AND BLAZING MUSIC + SOUND PARTNER UP TO ENLIGHTEN REALSCREEN SUMMIT ATTENDEES WITH HD WORKSHOP

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 11, 2008) – Leah Welsh (Executive Producer) and Scott Roy (Director of Post) of Serious Robots teamed up with Eric Johnson (Executive Producer) of Blazing Music + Sound and led the Mastering HD Workflow workshop at this year’s RealScreen Summit in Washington, D.C.

“Producers new to the HD world are unaware of the challenges facing them. Not all things are fixable in post,” noted Welsh. “In standard definition, a production error may be a 10 minute fix, but in high definition, it takes an hour and completely derails your schedule. These types of mistakes can drive up the cost and affect the overall quality of the project.”

With ongoing experience in correcting production oversights, Welsh, Roy and Johnson offered to educate industry producers and network representatives in a workshop at the RealScreen Summit.

The trio designed the seminar to be user-friendly, shying away from technical terminology. The presentation focused on simple steps that producers should take before production, ensuring a smooth transition into post production.

According to the threesome, the key to developing a successful HD workflow lies in looking at the project backwards, essentially from finish to start.  At the onset of a project, the producers should ask themselves a series of questions.  The answers will determine the correct HD workflow for that project.

For example, the producers should consider where the final product will air, and ask for the specifications or the vendor guide from that network.  Other suggestions included consulting an experienced post production company that has a proven track record with delivering HD shows.  Choosing a post production company that is comfortable with network specifications ensures the project will pass the network’s rigid quality control standards.

The speakers drew from experience and used specific real-life examples to illustrate problems and the appropriate way to approach and handle the issues. Among Serious Robots and Blazing Music + Sound’s HD credits are TLC’s hit show Jon & Kate + 8, Future Car (Discovery ChannelHD) and The Great Inca Rebellion (NOVA/National Geographic).
