BLAZING MUSIC + SOUND TO HOST ‘AN EVENING WITH GRAHAM TOWNSLEY’

Producer, director and writer of NOVA's and National Geographic's 'The Great Inca Rebellion' to speak in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept 14, 2007) – Blazing Music + Sound will host “An Evening with Graham Townsley” on Oct. 11, 2007, from 6-8 pm on the main sound stage at Trailblazer Studios, 1610 Midtown Place, Raleigh, N.C. The event is for independent producers, writers, directors and others in the filmmaking industry.

Townsley – the award-winning producer, director and writer of NOVA’s and National Geographic’s highly acclaimed “The Great Inca Rebellion” – will share his experiences in making this historically significant one-hour documentary that sheds new light on the fall of the great Inca Empire. He will be joined by the film’s Emmy award-winning editor Bonnie Cutler, music composer Aaron Keane, and sound designer Willie Elias.

“The Great Inca Rebellion” begins at a mass grave with skeletons that offer tantalizing clues about a fierce 16th century battle between Inca warriors and Spanish invaders. Through a mix of crime-lab science, archeology and history, Townsley’s film presents surprising new evidence of what happened, including what may be the first gunshot wound in the Americas.

Townsley describes the making of “The Great Inca Rebellion” as a moving personal experience. He credits NOVA for embracing and supporting his vision for the piece. “It reminded me that it is possible to tell new and intricate stories on TV, and that people want to see them,” he said.

A documentary filmmaker based in Washington, D.C., Townsley’s award-winning works have been shown on PBS, National Geographic, TLC and Discovery Channel. He is a trained anthropologist and has written, researched and filmed extensively in Latin America.

Townsley’s recent works include “Dawn of the Maya,” which aired on PBS, and "Treasure Seekers," which he series-produced for National Geographic. His documentary "The Shaman and His Apprentice" – shot while living among the Yaminahua people for three years in the Amazon – won the Prix de la Sept at the Jean Rouche Festival in Paris. A feature film based on his original screenplay, "Land of No Evil," is in development with Oscar-winning director/cinematographer Chris Menges.
