The Discovery Channel has once again chosen from within the Trailblazer family to work on the network’s upcoming special, Mini Monsters. Originally developed by the BBC, Discovery will be collaborating with Trailblazer Studios to revamp the project for its American release.
Mini Monsters explores the hidden world of some of the Earth’s tiniest critters as they struggle to survive in a hostile world much, much bigger than they are. Seeing our world from their perspective, state-of-the-art cameras and special effects help viewers delve into the kingdom of some of the world’s smallest, but toughest creatures.
For the Discovery Channel, Jonathan Halperin is producer/writer with Robert Zakin as executive producer and John Cavanagh as producer. The producers picked Peter Dinklage of HBO’s Game of Thrones to do the narration, and the Post-Production and Audio team at Trailblazer to bring the story to life.
Our very own executive producer Leah Welsh headed up the post team, with Emmy Award winning editor Bonnie Cutler cutting the original production down to a two-hour special, and Alan Maynard doing the online edit. Willie Elias orchestrated the sound editing and mixing, with Aaron Keane and Jim Crew composing the original score.
“We had a great experience with Trailblazer Studios,” says executive producer, Robert Zakin. “It’s the second major special we’ve done here, and this one was far more complex since we needed to re-score as well as re-edit and mix. Having all this talent under one roof – edit, music composition and mix – was integral to making a great show greater.”
MINI MONSTERS premieres on The Discovery Channel, May 31 at 9 p.m. EDT
