In 1979, a group of incarcerated men in a Virginia maximum-security prison came together to record an album of original R&B music. They called themselves the Edge of Daybreak, and for a time, their songs—centered on love, freedom, and hope—gained local attention. Eventually, the album faded into obscurity, until decades later when a few dedicated DJs rediscovered it. One of their tracks found new life in the Oscar-winning film Moonlight, reuniting surviving band members and serving as a powerful reminder that creativity and expression can thrive, even in the most unlikely places.
A&E Networks called on director/producer Dawn Porter and her Trilogy Films team to bring this remarkable story to life. Trilogy relied on Trailblazer Studios to provide post supervision, remote Avid editing systems and media management, mix & sound design, and color correction for the film.
